McAllen Brings a Bit of Manhattan to the Heart of the City
MCALLEN, TX—McAllen’s Heart of the City Development Corporation in association with Sir Kingston is hosting the New Year’s Eve Bash in downtown McAllen and invite the community and the media to join them for the festivities. The bash and festivities begin at 7pm on December 31st and ends at 2am January 1, 2009. The Ball-Dropping event is free and open to the public.
All Media is invited to a Press Conference scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10am at the top floor of the Downtown Parking Garage located at 221 S. 15th Street. Plans are to have all City Dignitaries attend.
Complete with a Ball-Dropping experience at precisely 12:01am on New Year’s Day, attendees can expect to see several downtown streets closed making way for the live outdoor music throughout the night. All currently open venues in the Heart of the City District will have their doors open as well. Venues include: Shine, Boiler Room, Flesh, The Patio on Guerra, Dive Downtown, The Piano Bar, Vicio, Rhythm & Brews, Cine El Rey, Club M, Element, and House. Wine. Pre-and After-party will be held at Flesh from 5pm to 2am. Flesh is located at 200 S. 17th Street. Tickets are $20 available at eztixx.com or at the door. All proceeds go to Heart of the City Development Corporation. No admission for the New Year’s Eve Bash. Although some of the downtown city streets will be closed off, parking will be available in the City Parking Garage located at 221 S. 15th Street.
“The New Year’s Eve Bash is a great community-wide event; free of charge to the public. It is definitely branding McAllen as a destination city,” said Joe Rodriguez, Director of the Heart of the City Development Corporation. “No other city has attempted a ball-dropping event other than Manhattan. We want the public to know that McAllen ready for these types of festivals and events; we are a city that can attract visitors from all over the country. This gives our community and the surrounding communities options on where to be when the clock strikes for the New Year,” said Rodriguez.
The New Year’s Eve Bash, hosted by the McAllen’s Heart of the City and Sir Kingston is an initiative by McAllen City Mayor, Richard Cortez. “I’m excited to know that the Heart of the City is planning a New Year’s Celebration in the McAllen Entertainment District. I believe this is long overdue and will give McAllen residents and visitors of McAllen an opportunity to get together in a wholesome environment to celebrate the New Year. This is consistent with the City’s business plan to make McAllen the center for culture and entertainment,” said Mayor Richard Cortez.
The public is invited to make all plans to attend the year’s largest event, December 31st in Downtown McAllen. Sponsorship opportunities and booth spaces are also available for the business community to participate. Booth spaces for food vendors and family activities or business are also available for rent. Booth space is available for $400 and includes electricity and signage. More information can be sought at Heart of the City.
